As the home of hockey in Nottingham, Nottingham Hockey Centre wanted an entrance that celebrated its rich sporting heritage while creating a welcoming first impression for visitors.

Crafting a bespoke hockey stick shaped door handle from quality Accoya timber

Here at FA North we're approached to work on all kinds of exciting and unique projects. For this one, we were asked to design, manufacture and install a bespoke entrance door, complete with a unique hockey stick-shaped handle.

To make the entrance more accessible and welcoming for everyone who visits the home of hockey, we created a unique new entrance. The custom timber door included a handle inspired by the Grays hockey stick. This was used by Olympic gold medallist Imran Sherwani in the 1988 Olympic final, where Great Britain beat West Germany 3-1 to win gold.

To make it, we scanned an original hockey stick and recreated its shape in Accoya timber, producing a one-of-a-kind, hockey-stick-shaped handle engraved with the words “Stick Together” as a tribute to the sport and its community.
